Review your clients’ changes. Keep your closing reference points.
An invoice amended after review. A journal dated in an earlier month. A client whose captured records have changed since year-end. Accaud brings those questions back to the evidence, with a separate audit trail and saved closes for each client.
Start with the client, not a combined transaction list
Your practice may review several organisations, but their audit sequences should remain separate. Accaud’s Overview brings clients together with their last sync and counts of relevant captured audit events since their latest month-end and year-end closes.
Those counts are a starting point for investigation, not a count of proven errors or necessarily unique transactions. An amendment can produce more than one audit row. Where no close has been saved, the client shows “No close yet” rather than implying there have been no changes.

Save a close
Open the relevant client’s trail to investigate its records. Each client has its own numbering; combining organisations does not create a meaningful shared accounting sequence.
Revisit month-end and year-end with evidence
Finalisation saves a period end, the actual closing timestamp, the finaliser and captured transaction snapshots. A later “Check for changes” compares that reference point with the latest captured records and relevant subsequent audit events.
Example: a September adjustment after October month-end
You finalise a client’s 31 October month-end on 3 November. An invoice dated 20 September is amended and captured in a later sync. Because the closing scope includes transactions dated on or before 31 October, that earlier-period adjustment can appear in the October check.
Example: a journal first captured after year-end
A supported manual journal appears in a later capture with an accounting date on or before the saved year-end. The comparison can show it as “New”, with debit and credit sides in the audit trail. “New” means new to the captured comparison, not proof of when it was created in the source account.
Finalising in Accaud does not lock the source ledger. Source-account lock dates and practice closing controls remain separate from monitoring captured evidence.
Understand what changed before drawing a conclusion
Review the original and later captured values, the accounting date and the available attribution. A financial amendment may be represented by a cancellation of the original recorded posting followed by a corrected posting; that presentation does not mean Accaud issued a credit note in the source account.
Client-specific audit trail: inspect supported invoices, bills, credit notes, payments, bank transactions and manual journals captured at sync.
Linked amendments: cancellation rows reference the original audit line, with corrected postings recorded separately.
Source references: supported transaction links open the original record in a new tab, subject to your accounting-account permissions.
Recorded users: attribution appears where the evidence supports it. The sync operator or finaliser is not assumed to be the editor.
See the audit-trail guide for interpreting recorded changes, or the Change down report for comparing captured reporting evidence at two moments.
A repeatable practice review
Check capture freshness.
Review the client’s latest sync and any failures before relying on a comparison.
Save the reference point.
An authorised reviewer or administrator finalises the relevant client’s month-end or year-end.
Return to the saved close.
After a later successful sync, check for changes rather than assuming the reviewed period stayed unchanged.
Follow the relevant trail.
Read the summary, inspect the audit evidence and open supported source references to investigate.
Keep previous closes.
If you finalise again, distinguish the superseded reference point from the newer evidence.
Know what the comparison covers
Accaud works from captured versions of supported records, not a complete general-ledger feed. It cannot reconstruct every pre-connection edit or guarantee separate evidence for changes made between syncs. Missing permissions, failed captures and unavailable attribution can leave gaps.
“No changes found” describes the available captured evidence; it is not assurance that the complete ledger is unchanged. Reconstructed financial reports should not be treated as a complete trial balance, profit and loss or balance sheet.
Questions from accounting practices
Can I review several clients without mixing their audit trails?
Yes. Overview brings the clients together, while transaction numbering and saved closing evidence remain client-specific. Open a particular client’s records to investigate its changes.
Who can finalise a client’s period?
Accaud administrators and reviewers can finalise a period. The saved close records the finaliser separately from any user attributed to a transaction change.
Does a change count mean the client has made an error?
No. Counts reflect relevant captured audit events since a saved close. Expected corrections can generate events too, and one amendment can produce multiple rows. Review the evidence before deciding whether action is needed.
Does Accaud amend client accounting records?
No. The accounting connection is read-only. Accaud saves evidence and comparisons; it does not post corrections, issue credit notes or lock your clients’ source ledgers.
